Fresh Tree Guide
Caring for Your Tree
Did you know over half a freshly cut tree's weight is water? Trees are thirsty — follow these tips to keep yours looking its best all season.
Check water daily
Trees may drink up to four litres of water per day. Use a stand that holds at least four litres and keep the base submerged at all times. If the water level drops below the bottom of the trunk, a seal will form and a fresh cut will be necessary.
Place in water promptly
Place your tree in water as soon as possible after cutting. Trees can tolerate 6–8 hours out of water if needed, but the sooner it drinks, the better. The outer layers of wood are the most efficient at taking up water.
Keep away from heat sources
Position your tree away from fireplaces, heaters, vents, and direct sunlight. Cooler rooms slow drying and help your tree last longer through the season.
Use LED lights
LED lights produce far less heat than traditional bulbs, helping your tree stay fresh longer and reducing fire risk.
